What is the Discussion Leader Program?
Discussion Leaders are passionate and dedicated upper-division students who serve as teaching assistants for the University Studies 1 Freshman Experience course.
Why should I apply to be a Discussion Leader?
We were all freshmen at one point; you may recall how overwhelmed you felt. If you had someone to guide you, it probably made your experience a lot easier; if you didn’t, you probably wish that you had. As a Discussion Leader, you will be a form of support for your class of 15 freshmen and help them learn how to successfully navigate UCI.
This program also focuses on leadership and professional development. You will gain vital transferable skills such as public speaking, conflict management, cultural competency, networking, and much more!
How can I apply?
You must be a current 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year (planning to stay a 5th year) undergraduate student to apply to the program. Applications are available online beginning Monday of Week 1 of Winter quarter, and are due by Friday of Week 4 of Winter quarter. After you submit your application, you will be invited to participate in a group interview.
